For couples · the menu, not the meal
Yes, no, maybe list, explained
A yes/no/maybe list is a menu of ideas you each mark alone: yes, maybe, or no. You compare afterwards and keep what you both want. It is a way to find the overlap without making anyone perform a confession. The flirty items are on the starter list. The sorting, including a solo no that is never revealed, is the game.
What the three answers mean
Yes means you want to try it, or you already know you like it and want it in the mix. It does not mean tonight, and it does not mean every time. It means this idea is welcome in the conversation about what you do together.
Maybe means you can picture talking about it and you are not ready to plan it. People use maybe as a polite yes or a polite no. Try not to. If you know it is a no, mark no. If you know you want it, mark yes. Maybe is for the honest middle: interested, unsure, or interested only with conditions you have not said yet.
No means leave it out. It does not require a reason, a softer alternative, or a promise to revisit it. A no can change on a later list, because people change. It does not change because someone is disappointed. If you need the words for holding that line in a game, they are in how to say no during truth or dare. The same muscle is in use here.
Why you answer where they cannot see
A list filled out side by side becomes a performance. You watch their pen. You upgrade your maybe to a yes so you do not look boring. You downgrade a yes so you do not look like too much. The privacy is the feature. It is what makes the overlap real instead of polite.
On paper, that means two copies, filled in different rooms, then a third page where you only write the lines you both marked yes, and the lines where a yes meets a maybe. You do not read the nos out loud. You do not ask “wait, what did you put for the third one?” That question is how a private no becomes a fight.
In the game, the sorting is the point. You each answer, on one phone passed back and forth or on two phones if you have free accounts. A line only comes back if nobody marked it no. A solo no is never shown. Guests get the romance slice. A free account opens the rest of the list, and the two-phone room. The more explicit themes stay in the game rather than on a public page, which is also why the starter list is the flirty part only.
How to run it on a weeknight
Do not try to finish a long list in one sitting and then act on it. That is two activities, and they ask for different moods. Marking is quiet and thoughtful. Doing something about it is a different night, or at least a different hour.
- Agree that nos will not be read, guessed at, or joked about later.
- Each of you marks alone. Yes, maybe, or no. Skip a line if you do not understand it. A skip is not a yes.
- Come back together and look only at the overlap. Two yeses are a candidate. A yes beside a maybe is a talk.
- Pick one shared yes for this week. Leave the rest on the list.
- If the one you picked needs a way to stop, read the safeword guide before you do it, not after.
The one shared yes can be very mild. A slow morning, a letter, a song you dance to in the kitchen. The list is not a ladder you have to climb toward the most intense line you both tolerated. The best item is the one you will actually be glad you did.
Ways people ruin a perfectly good list
The first is reading the nos. Sometimes it is dressed up as honesty. “I just want to know what you’re closed to.” You can ask that in words, about a specific idea, another day. Mining the no column is a search for rejection or for a loophole. Either one breaks the reason they were honest.
The second is treating maybe as yes because you are enthusiastic. Your enthusiasm is not their consent. A maybe next to your yes means you ask, in a full sentence, on a day when you are both calm. How to bring up trying something new is that sentence. It includes the no.
The third is doing the whole overlap in a weekend, like a syllabus. You will associate the list with exhaustion. One item, done kindly, makes you want to open the list again. Twelve items makes you want to hide it.
The fourth is using the list to win an argument about how boring or how demanding someone is. The list is not evidence. It is a snapshot of two people on one day. If you need to talk about feeling unwanted, talk about that. Do not wave a maybe at them.
When the list is the wrong tool
If you are in a fight, do not open the list to prove you are still fun. Repair the fight. If one of you is unsure they want to be sexual at all right now, a menu of ideas is pressure with better typography. Talk about closeness that is not a performance. The conversation starters are a gentler door.
If an item involves tying, pain, or a scene that is hard to pause, the list is only the start. Read the safeword guide together, and read the safety page for that theme before anyone buys a prop. A mutual yes is permission to plan, not permission to skip the plan. We do not include breath play in the games at all. A yes on a homemade list does not make it safe. Leave it off.
If the list did its job, you learned one thing you both want and you did not learn the things only one of you wants. That second part is the success people forget to count. You got to keep a private no, and your partner got to keep their dignity. That is worth more than any single yes on the page.
Let the game hide the nos
Answer on one phone, passing it back and forth, or on two. A line only comes back if nobody marked it no. You can be honest because a private no is not a scene.

What is a yes/no/maybe list?
A list of ideas about intimacy, dates, and sex. Each person marks every line yes, maybe, or no in private. You then look at where you agree. It is a menu you build together, not a contract.
Will my partner see what I marked no?
Not if you follow the rule, and not in the game on this site. A line is only revealed if nobody marked it no. A solo no is never shown, so you can opt out without a debate.
What does maybe mean?
Maybe means you would talk about it. It does not mean yes, and it does not mean “surprise me.” Two maybes, or a yes next to a maybe, are a conversation. They are not a plan until you make one.
Do we have to finish every line?
No. Mark as many as you have patience for, then pick one shared yes for this week. An unfinished list is a reason to play again, not a chore you owe each other.
