Truth or dare questions for couples, by heat level
A heat level is a promise you make before anyone draws a card. It says how direct the next half hour is allowed to get. On Knotty the three levels are Flirty, Spicy, and Scorching. This page is the map. The hotter lines stay in the truth or dare game, where a skip is one tap.
Pick the level before the first card
Most awkward truth-or-dare nights are not caused by a bad question. They are caused by two different nights happening at once. One of you thought this was compliments and kissing. The other thought the clothes were a suggestion. Naming the level first is how you find that out while you are still dressed and laughing.
Sit down before you open the game. Say the three names out loud. Each of you says which one you want tonight, and which one you do not. If you do not match, you play the gentler one. That is not a compromise you negotiate in the middle of a dare. It is the rule that keeps the game a game.
Agree on the skip at the same time. Either of you can pass a card, and a pass ends that card. You do not owe a speech. If you want the longer version of that rule, it is in how to say no during truth or dare. If you might go past kissing, read the safeword guide together first. Green, yellow, and red take one minute to learn and save you a miserable half hour.
Flirty: teasing, touching, talking
Flirty is the warm-up. The questions are about kisses, compliments, outfits, and the small moments you usually skip past. The dares are eye contact, a slow song, a whisper, a kiss on the hand. Nobody has to take anything off. Nobody has to perform. It is a good level for a first time playing together, for a weeknight when you are tired, and for any night when one of you is shy.
The full warm-up deck, the same cards the game deals at this heat, is on the truth or dare questions page. Here are a few originals in the same spirit, if you want to practice the shape of the level before you open the app:
- Truth: what is a kiss from me you still think about?
- Truth: where, besides my mouth, do you like being kissed?
- Truth: what should I wear the next night we stay in?
- Truth: when did you last want to pull me closer and stop yourself?
- Truth: what is a compliment you have been keeping to yourself?
- Dare: hold my eyes for twenty seconds without talking.
- Dare: kiss the back of my hand, then tell me where you would rather kiss.
- Dare: put on one song and sway with me until it ends.
- Dare: whisper what you want the rest of tonight to feel like.
Read them out loud, taking turns. If a line makes one of you go quiet, that is information, not a failure. Skip it and take the next one. Eight to twelve cards is a full evening. Stop while you still want another round.
Spicy: clothes can start coming off
Spicy is the middle. The tone changes from “I like the way you kiss” to “I want you, and I am willing to say where.” Cards can ask for a piece of clothing to come off, for a more direct touch, or for a sentence you would not say in the kitchen with the lights on. It is still a game with turns. It is still allowed to be short.
We do not print those lines on this page. A spicy card landed in front of the wrong person, or read out loud at the wrong moment, stops being a game. They live in the truth or dare game, behind a free account, so a guest scrolling the site never sees them. If you are not sure you want that level, you are not ready for it tonight. Stay on Flirty. The deck will be there next week.
Before a spicy round, add two sentences to the setup. First: what stays on, at least for the first few cards. Second: a place that is off limits to hands. You can lift either rule later, out loud. You cannot assume they lifted themselves because the card was bold.
Scorching: only if you already know each other
Scorching is the level we describe as nothing held back. The cards are direct. They assume you have already talked about what you like, what you will not do, and how to stop. They are a poor way to discover those things. If you have never played past Flirty together, Scorching is the wrong door.
Use it when three things are true. You have played a milder round and both of you wanted more. You have said, on a different day, what is off the table. And you both know that “red,” or whatever word you picked in the safeword guide, ends the round immediately, with no debate and no sulking. If any of those is missing, drop a level. The game lets you. Your partner should too.
A free account is what opens Scorching, same as Spicy. That is deliberate. The point of an account here is not a paywall. The point is that the direct cards are a choice you make while signed in, not a list a search engine can quote back at you.
A round that stays kind
Whoever is more nervous sets the pace. That sounds like a slogan. In practice it means the braver person does not get to “just try one” from the next level up. If you want to go hotter, you ask when no card is in play. “Want to switch to Spicy for the next round?” is a complete question. “Come on, it’s only a game” is not an answer they have to accept.
- Name the level. Write it down if you tend to “forget” in the moment.
- Put both phones face down except the one with the game, unless you are playing apart.
- Take turns. The person who is not drawing reads the card out loud, slowly.
- A minute or two is enough for a truth. A dare does not get a second chapter.
- Skip without a story. Draw the next card. Smile if you can. Do not tease the skip.
- Stop at a number you picked earlier, or at the first moment it feels like a chore.
If you are in two cities, stay on prompts that work on a camera. Kisses and laps can wait for the visit. The video-call guide is the setup for that, and the in-person warm-up list is the one to save for the couch.
When the round ends, say one thing you liked. Not a performance review. One thing. Then leave the game closed. A good heat level is one you would pick again on purpose, not one you have to recover from.
Deal a round at the heat you picked
Open truth or dare, leave it on the level you both named, and take turns. The flirty deck needs no account. Spicy and Scorching open with a free one.

What are the three heat levels?
Flirty is teasing, touching, and talking. Spicy is where clothes can start coming off. Scorching is the direct deck, for two people who already know each other’s limits. You choose one before the round.
Can we mix heat levels in one round?
You can, and it usually goes badly. Stay on one level for the whole round. If you both want to go up, say so out loud and start a new round. One person’s excitement is not a vote.
Do we need an account for spicy truth or dare?
The flirty romance deck plays on one phone with no account. Spicy and Scorching open with a free account, so those lines are not sitting on a public page. A two-phone room needs an account too.
What if we want different levels?
Play the lower one. The person who wants less heat is setting the ceiling for tonight. You can talk about the higher level another day, when nobody is holding a card.
